RUN, WALK OR CYCLE FOR CANCER
I recently ran 10km in honor of the “Terry Fox Foundation”.
Even though there was not a medal at the finish line or my results would not be recorded like so many other runs. I was there to support a very charitable and noble cause that began before I could even tie my running shoes.
I was there and that is what mattered!
Many people came to support, and it was heartwarming to see kids of different ages running, cycling and walking alongside their parents.
I looked at the excited faces at the starting line, but I knew amongst the crowd someone lost a dear and beloved to cancer.
Even though they might have been there to run in memory and to support a cancer foundation, they were there to also run for those who they lost to cancer.
You don’t have to know someone who is affected or be affected by cancer to make a small difference.
The mere fact that you have your health is a blessing you have to be thankful for every day of your life. Cancer does not choose, and people who have lost their lives to this disease have left behind prayers that one day it will be beaten.
Our donations and time help support research and give families hope.
Who was Terry Fox?
Terrance Stanley “Terry” Fox born on July 28th, 1958 and died on 28th June 1981. He was a fighter against cancer and a brave heart that wanted to raise awareness. His determination to raise money for cancer research is applauded.
As a runner myself, I just have to think of his strength and courage running on one good leg and an artificial leg covering a distance of 5, 373 Km to raise awareness and help cancer research to continue until the finish line.
My 10km run made a small difference, and the donation I made will make a big difference when combined with all the other funds that were raised on the day.
The Terry Fox run is the largest one-day fundraiser for cancer research.
Terry Fox Run – Abu Dhabi
Every year the Capital hosts the Terry Fox run which gives families, running enthusiasts and philanthropists an opportunity to come together to support an ongoing cause that “Terry Fox’ began on 12th April 1980 in St. John’s Newfoundland.
Everyone is welcome on the day, and the event is free.
Donations are more than welcome, and participants can register online through https://www.hopasports.com/en and purchase a ‘Terry Fox’ T-shirt and certificate of participation after the run.
Don’t let the word run prevent you from participating because it is more than a run; it is an opportunity to help make a difference.
On the day there are crowds of eagerly awaiting faces at the starting line waiting to cross, whether it’s walking, jogging, running or cycling. At that moment, everyone is equal.
There are no timing chips and race results because the purpose is not about the participant but about the people who you are helping.
The life that you will help through cancer research. Your participation means something to someone you have never met before.
If you missed the run this year, you could always add it to your calendar next year. Information and registration can be found on the link below.
