I am very excited to share my thoughts on how social media has been influencing my life recently and I am also very curious to know if social media has had a negative or positive impact on your life?
I love a good conversation, don’t you? I love talking about things that can make a positive impact on my life. My take away from a good conversation is the change within me. When my thoughts and opinions are shifted through different perspectives then I know that my time spend listening, talking and sharing with us was wisely used.
What happens when your world seems small and the interactions you have with others are limited? How do you feel when you sitting in a conversation with people and they are either complaining about the same old problems, stressing about life or speaking about things that mean nothing to you? Yet, your love and need to be surrounded by these people, who are either your family or friends far outweigh the importance of a valuable conversation.
Good conversations are what keep us Informed, Entertained and Enlightened!
Your world is not as small as you might think. People are talking and information is being shared every second of the hour.
I’ve recently jumped on to the bandwagon of conversations that interest me. My objective is to learn from others, to discover things on the internet that I do not have time to search for.
I’ve joined online communities that have added value to my personal life.
I remember when Facebook became available to the public in 2006. It was the year of change for many people who needed a voice, a space to highlight their lives. People were able to connect with friends and families abroad. Lost friendships were rekindled and old sparks were rediscovered. It was an exciting time for anyone that had a Facebook account.
Trends have changed since then. People have been given multiple mediums to use. Some have become so overwhelmed by the impact of social media on their lives, coping with too much content and information has led them to delete their accounts, while others have embraced the changes and have been able to incorporate it into their daily lives. For others, it has become a lifeline into a world of chaos, uncertainty, and loneliness.
Whatever your feelings are about social media there are many groups sharing thoughts on the subject. Are you part of the social community? Are you giving your comments on a topic? Are you quietly observing the comments of others, feeling satisfied that your questions on the topic are being answered?
How naïve I have been to social media. All this time I was using it incorrectly. I was relying on Google, Wikipedia and Youtube to give me what I was searching for. Is this you? I am probably not the only person who has not given much to Facebook. Times have changed in my life and my thoughts on social media have gained a new perspective.
Since creating this blog and realizing just how important the right information can have in your life, my thoughts and opinions of social media have shifted towards a positive approach.
Days spend scrolling the wrong feeds are a thing of the past for me. My knowledge about life has broadened because of people who are eager to post a topic and are willing to read comments from strangers who have experience and knowledge.
Our trust in the internet has adapted to our environment. Who better to turn to instead of Google when you in desperate need of clear direction?
The online communities in our cities, neighborhoods, countries, other countries are the real source of information. People who have experienced your health symptoms, your dessert cravings, your stress about work, your parental worries, your heartaches, your confusion and your curiosity about life. You not alone! Someone is sharing similar thoughts, feelings, and ideas and you are just one click away from being part of the panel of comments.
Facebook has evolved over the years and has become a valuable platform for information.
Friendships and support groups have been created through endless comments and posts. Users on the groups have taken the initiative to privately message each other and what started as online interaction has led to much more.
Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram have expanded our world, and the irony of it all is that our big world has become smaller because of these platforms.
If you feel alone in life, it’s because you are now choosing to be alone. You don’t have to walk through life on your own. Communities are waiting to welcome you.
I admire the creators of online groups, the silent heroes who have seen opportunities to help themselves and others through good online conversations.
These online groups have rules to protect us against wrongful information and snide remarks. The creators are the watchdogs making sure that we are safeguarded from people who want to spam, market and sell to us. At least this is my experience from the online groups I have joined.
Since two years ago, I have become very active on Facebook. The account I created in 2007, has become my source of information on topics that interest me. When I need a reliable doctor in my city, I know where to find the answer. The experience of online users has made me feel confident when consulting nearby physicians. The recipes that have been shared have proven to be flop proof because someone has already tried and tested it for me. Whatever life situation I need input on, I know where to find the answer.
I’ve spoken to people who have started to use Instagram for information and to help support their lifestyles.
Let’s not forget that social media serves as valuable entertainment in our lives. It’s a reason to stay longer in bed on weekends, scrolling through feeds, watching Instagram, Facebook stories and posting what we want the world to see. It’s our friend when no human contact is around and sometimes occupies us when we are with others. We see people on their phones constantly. There are heated conversations about how much time we spend on our devices. Everyone has an opinion and all opinions should be heard.
There are the influencers who use social platforms to build new careers and have an obligation to their followers to post new and better content daily.
The list of reasons why people follow accounts is endless and so much of it has to do with the psychology of a person. What an interesting topic to debate about?
How are you using social media? Is it a valuable source of information that is allowing you to grow and flourish as a person or are you just curious about the world beyond yours?
How we use social media is a question about self-reflection.
It’s a deep and satisfying acknowledgment when you choose to answer truthfully.
“Ordinary people think merely of spending time.
Great people think of using it”
Arthur Schopenhauer
The next time your life throws a curveball in your direction and you feel alone. Remember that the search engine on Facebook will help you find direction.
No one can solve your life problems, no one can create changes in your life, but some conversations, topics will help you answer your questions.
Discover life through others!!
Add value to other’s lives and become part of a global change!!!!
