Sheikh Zayed Mosque – An Architectural beauty and religious Haven!
I have visited the Mosque several times since the mosque opened to the public. I am always a tour guide for families and friends visiting Abu Dhabi.
Location
The Sheikh Zayed Mosque located in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The unique building is a mirage from the highway. Captivating onlookers with an appealing architecture and mystic evening colors that shadow over the domes and minarets. It could be an image from a magical book if there were a beautiful mosque in it. The mosque is unlike any mosque in the world. A mosque is a place of worship for Muslims. Tourists and non-muslims are welcomed to explore the mosque daily. A tour guide is available and will provide relevant and useful information about the mosque.
Interesting features about the Sheikh Zayed Mosque
- The carpet in the main hall prayer is considered to be the worlds largest carpet.
- There are seven imported chandeliers made of millions of Swarovski crystals.
- The pools reflect the columns of the mosque.
- The mosque has a unique lightening system which reflects the phases of the moon.
- The 99 names of Allah (attributes of God) are featured on the Quibla (direction a Muslim faces when praying)
Dress code when entering the Mosque
Women and men are expected to dress modestly.
There are cloakrooms available for people who are not wearing appropriate clothing.
Men will be given a Kandura to wear this is optional and only expected if you are wearing shorts. Trousers, jeans, and Tshirts are allowed.
Women have to cover their bodies and wear a headscarf. The Abayas have changed in recent years, and I like the options available. The colors look beautiful in pictures. The headscarf is like a hoodie attached to the dress. I think tourists look lovely wearing the Abaya. It makes your visit to the mosque more exciting and makes your photos look unique.
Security at the mosque is strict, and you will be required to have your belongings scanned.
Library and coffee shop
The library and coffee shop provides more opportunity to get a full day experience at the mosque. Make sure to visit both while you are exploring.
Best time to visit the Mosque
I love visiting the mosque in the late afternoon. You get to experience the mosque during the day and see the sunset over the mosque. A visit to the mosque is an experience not to be missed. The lights glow between the columns giving the mosque a heavenly feeling. There are always a lot of tourists and people at the mosque. Be mindful and respectful of the Mosque’s significance. It is a place of worship.
